Describe a "useable" block for build
I'm looking to buy an LS block to build an LSVtec turbo over the winter. Looking for a medium internal build, pistons/rods etc..... and looking for around 400-450hp. In terms of finding a block to build, what would be considered a "usable" block. I know some minor cylinder damage can be fixed with a bigger bore........
Essentially what do i need to look for in order to have a block usable for a build and not buy something that is trashed. Aside from the obvious like holes or cracks and such.
If this has been asked please direct me to that thread, didn't find much in search.....

I feel your confusion, been hung over all day not on my game at all, but you still didnt answer the mans question...lol
Anyway OP, if your not sleeving make sure the cylinder walls dont have any very deep scores on them, and otherwise general damage.

Thanks, what about keeping certain parts with the block? Like does the crank typically need to be in good conidtiona and with the block or can another crank be ok in there? I remember something being that way, where the internal part should stay with the original piece or problems may arise, that may be in the head??
If you want to do lsvtec save the money on the conversion kit and just get the gsr block and use an LS crank and rods. That being said its best that the cylinder walls dont have any damage. light scuff is normal just deep scratches. stick with 81.25 or 81.5mm pistons and for the hp level you looking at eagle rods will get the job done cheap. I personally run a gsr with ls crank and eagle rods and SRP pistons making 400whp on 93 octane.

The LS crank stroke is slightly larger than the GSR crank. Which should equal out to more torque during tuning. IDK which one is better, but the GSR block comes with a girdle and oil squirters and is VTEC head ready, whereas the LS does not and is not. You can put a girdle on the GSR block no probs though. I would pick either/or, whichever one was cheaper and just go from there.
If you were going with LSVTEC putting an LS crankshaft into a gsr block is the same thing without the hastle of the conversion kit and the block has a girdle and more webbing, Just easier and stronger IMO
Are you looking got instate sales? or just good deals in general? Hmotors, jdm sodk is Dade I ordered a 98 ITR swap fron them. I didnt ended up having to replace the rings.
perfect thanks, i'm keeping my eye out and can use parts from my current LS motor for the build.
