D16Z6 vs. D16Y8. Final authority
If you want a NA setup go with the Y8 and if you want a turbo setup go with the Z6. You could go with the Y8, but it would require more precise tuning. Here's why I say this:
Z6 intake and exhaust valve length is: 53.135-53.635
Y8 intake and exhaust valve length is: 53.17-53.54
This gives the Y8 a little more valve overlap.
Z6 compression ratio is: 9.2
Y8 compression ratio is: 9.6
Everything else on these engines are identical. Yes there are a few differences in the way that the intake runner on the head is arranged, but for the normal FI guy it really won't make a difference. My verdict is: if you have a Z6 don't take the time to switch to a Y8 or if you have a Y8 don't take the time to switch to Y8. Just stay within your year.
