the code is oin the block it will say d16z6 or d16y8..z6 is found in 92-95 civic and y8 is found in 96-2000 civic both ex models..

Not true. My 100% stock 94 ex with z6 said honda on the valve cover.
the y8 has a nicer intake manifold.
Y8 has stronger steel shift forks in the transmission while the z6 has aluminum which is very proned to break over the y8 forks.
the z6 is OBD1
the y8 is OBDII
I believe the y8 has a slightly higher compression by .2
