Default timer causing problems??

scenario: I jump in the car put the key in and try to start it, no current what so ever. This after starting the car succesfully three times prior. So, i let the car sit for a while, then i try it again and nothing. leave the key on ON, while i try to figure out whats wrong, when all of the sudden the inside lights come on then shut off. I then decide to unhook the timer, turn the key, and it starts.

I changed the battery recently and havent had this problem before. Should i just assume that something is wrong with the timer (or wiring), or was that just a fluke? Opinions please...
