d15b headgasket question
I need a new headgasket for my d15b vtec. Is the z6 one the same? i searched and couldnt find a definate answer. And would you prefer an OEM head gasket or a cometic? The engine has all stock internals. i plan on getting some headstuds too. thanks

Re: d15b headgasket question (89 crix si)
easy serchable answer.
Yes.
OEM MLS gasket is awesome.
Headstuds=Z6.
for the head: Z6. for the block:
D15B7 main crank journals, D16Z6 rod journals. D16Z6 bore, D16Z6 rods, D16Z6 pistons are different, the wristopin in the D15B rods is 3mm higher to compensate for deck.

Re: d15b headgasket question (89 crix si)
yep.
check out the D15B threads (offical part #'s, and others) on http://www.d-series.org ; you can also try searching for posts from my username from that site.
years ago [before I realized how stuck-up and hypocritical the mods were] I helped solve a bunch of myths and find out that the D15B takes a wide range of parts; and they are all the bigger sized components.
I also heard through the woodworks that all the SOHC's (1.5 and 1.6 that is) use the same HG.
***I personally used a Z6 MLS HG on a D15B8 block with P32 (D15B7) head; no issues there. Running that motor in my daily driver as we speak.
just think of it this way: buy everything for a Z6; except the pistons, crank, and crank main bearings. The only out of those 3 you can replace would be the crank bearings: get those from a D15B7 [lets say a 92 Civic LX).
The cam is unique, ,but only marginally different than a Z6 cam. slightly higher lift and duration. It has to do with the fact that the piston spends a slightly longer time near BDC and TDC on each stroke
oah yeah... unique block!
easy enough?

yeah... the MLS vs the cardboard type gaskets is minimal... at the very most .05-.1 difference in compression. (.1 being extreme cause you milled a shitload off the head, etc.)
