help on a d16z6 build
ok i have a d16z6 that blew a head gasket so i am going to tear it down and re-build it , but i would like to add the d16a6 pistons and rods to it instead of the stock z6 one's because that fact of the better bottom end on the a6. now if i can use the a6 pistions and rods should the rings be gapped for the z6 block or the a6 pistions
now i have done ALOT of searching before i wrote this post so please don't tell me to search
on here and other outside sources like d-series.org, none of them didn't really answer my question.

bore and stroke is identical. Only difference is piston dome displacement being more on the PM6's= higher comp

no way. Running P29's will put you over 12:1.
I am rumming PM6 pistons and rods in my D16Z6 and am untuned running 92 octane and 14* base timing and have no problems...deffinately need to tune it sometime tho- been putting it off for almost a year

how does that motor pull on the street?any dyno #'s/track times?
to the thread starter, yea the bore is all 75mm, so im going to venture that the gap should be to the pm6 pistons(if it doesnt turn out to be the same)

no numbers yet. Waiting on a Skunk 2 cam, and then I might jump on the dyno. I have it paired with my stock tranny with a 4.9 FD...and it's a very nice setup. This build was actually done spur of the moment after a spun rod bearing in this block with stock internals. I need an engine running fast for cheap...so I took rods/pistons out of an A6, slapped my old rings on those to use in the Z6 block, and have been running it ever since. I've actually had it since May, and put on at least 12k miles. Let a friend drive it and didn't pop the hood...told him I did something different and he was to guess, and he thought I put a B16 in there

I can talk to you for days about D series man. And if you can, just run a stock D16A6 block with a Z6 head. Same characteristics as running a Z6 block with A6 pistons, but you will have steel mains with the A6 block- only D series with steel mains. email me if you wanna talk...

haha good **** man. im more than likely gonna put together a z6head/y5 block/a6pistons setup with my y5 when i pull it for an ls/turbo in a lil while. is there a particular reason you went with the skunk2 instead of the zex cam for your build? if you have some extra time, hit me back an email. if not good luck with the rest of the build and the dyno
