umm theres to ways of thiking,

1 is internal wastegate is less accurate and not as High Performance, and your potential power is limited

2 they look kind of gay, and the way the wastegate works is it dumps right near the exhaust outlet of the turbo so you kind of have this lumpy downpip thing, unless you custom build a good one.

to be truthful, which maybe a mistake on this board....i have a HKS gt2510 ball bearing turbo about to be install on our race car, the turbo is 63 trim on the compressor wheel, .60 A/R and 62 trim on turbine wheel, but guess what......it has an internal wastegate, the turbo is rated to produce 300 hp on its own.....so thats good enough.....but when i first was talking to hks about it i said, is there any way to convert it to external...i looks kind of gay, they laughed and said well you can, but just see how it works before you do anything, you should be happy with it......so im waiting to see

my sugestion is that you should find a turbo that will work for your setup, and find a manifold for your setup, if its and internal wastegate with and external wastegate manifold it will be kind of gay, and if its vice versa it will not be good at all(motor go boom)

the way its mostly done is the size of oil line coming into the turbo, to big and it floods the turbo and blows through the seals, to small and it doesnt lubricate enough........find out what size is used for that specific turbo and at what pressure and try to match it as close as posible

Thanks for all the info. I think I am gonna go custom. Here is what I have planned on getting:

1. Turbocharger
2. Turbo Manifold
3. Downpipe
4. Charge Pipes
5. Oil Feed/Return Line
6. Fuel Management Unit
7. Wastegate
8. MAP Sensor By-Pass Valve
9. Various hoses/pipes (silicone, etc.)

And others:
10. Blow-Off Valve
11. Intercooler
12. Gauges (Boost, A/F, and EGT)
13. Better fuel pump and injectors
14. Apex SAFC
15. Thermal 3" Exhaust

If anyone can recomend their favorite brands, that would help

Well, theres nothing too custom about what you have there.
You will definetly need 1 through 14 if you want any kind of a turbo system??
Whats so custom about that?? Buy a DRAG and be done with it....

Custom would be some crazy turbo, an equal lenght manifold, a 40+mm wg, 3: dp cat and exhaust, standalone, injectors, blah blah blah.....
Basically you dont want custom, you want a kit that Ben can easily assemble for you!

I have certain brands in mind for 1-14, I was simply asking if those are the necessary parts to piece a turbo kit together.

a properly built custom setup will be more reliable and higher quality than any turbo kit out there on the market. however, the price will probably be higher, but you gotta pay to play. i would also recommend a standalone engine management COUGH*hondata*COUGH instead of the alphabet soup setup. standalone = reliable

The jewel of my custom setup is the Hondata 2B. After doing some research, I wanted to save myself the hassle of going from the FMU/inline pump setup to Hondata. More money spent now=less money spent later.
