1st time you boosted a honda...kit or custom?
a lot of people say go custom on this forum.
how many of you actually did the FIRST time? i mean actually bought all the parts individually.
I think a lot of the junkyard turbo bothers probly went mostly custom, but i think the average turbo honda is a kit, not a custom.
PLEASE VOTE ONLY IF YOU'RE CAR IS ACTUALLY BOOSTED. NO PAPER TIGERS.

easier to go with kit...half the people probably didnt even know how a turbo operated or what a downpipe, bov or wg was.

Re: 1st time you boosted a honda...kit or custom? (falc0n)
my first kit will be custom. I plan on putting all the top quality parts together. Im not going to run a fmu im going straight standalone from the get go. I only plan on boosting 6-7psi everyday becuase it's my everyday driver. But i dont want the fuel problems people deal with. So my first turbo set up wil be custom with all new parts. Im taking my time to do it right the first time.

I went custom my first time...I don't regret it either. Great quality from my intercooler to my guages for less than any complete kit I've seen.

Im a loser i know it........I changed my mind. I just talked to Tony1. He advised me to stick with afc-hack because i just plan on running low boost. So yes a kit will be my first choice with a few up grades in the kit.
I didn't vote just stated what i "was" going to do. and i'm here to redeem myself for what i said. It was a lie...lol "So kit here i come, right back were i started from."

how about this, part custom and part kit.... does that make it custom? - didn't vote since the parts are not on the car yet, but these are the parts...

i'd prefer it if you voted kit since it says "parts originally from a kit"
you can tell everyone its custom as far as i am concerned. but its got kit parts in it.
my point is that there is a lot of engineering / planning that goes into a kit that you have to copy or recreate/fabricate if you don't have parts from a kit.

I was originally going to go custom, but the max-rev deal came along, and I bought that. But still there's alot that isn't included in that kit, like injectors, fuel control, the diy piping...its like a gray area between kit and custom

Re: 1st time you boosted a honda...kit or custom? (Canuk_SiR)
I bought a greddy sohc turbo kit for my first kit, which i never even installed. I was going to install it on my b16a in my old hatchback. That was three years ago. The more i learned about FI, the more I kept wanting to go custom. After selling that kit, I pieced together a custom kit using Drag stuff/max rev stuff/standalone, larger injectors. I am not happy with that kit so going to do a custom kit all over again. I think the most important thing about a kit is that you make the intercooler piping custom fit to your car. I have the worst luck with fitment of the piping with my car, so custom is the only way to go for me.

Re: 1st time you boosted a honda...kit or custom? (Tinker219)
..started off thinking about a kit. But went custom instead. I think I spent a good $100 on Money Order Fee's alone. But well worth it. I have everything ready for install right here in my trunk. Not putting it on until Spring so the weather clears up and I'll be out for school for awhile. Also I couldn't get my downpipe/IC piping made before I go back. Put the compressor on the drivers side - so I'd need all the piping customly done.
*Note* I did not vote since the setup is not completely on the car.

i had to go custom. at the time nobody made a kit for my car (nissan) so i fab'd everything up myself. took about a year to save $, research, and buy parts.

<went with a kit.
when i went turbo i didnt know anyone with a turbo honda, or anyone who even knew anything about turbo hondas. I sure as hell didn't know all the parts i needed.
if i were to do it now, id definitly go custom.

My first kit was a JRSC. I have no regrets. It made good power, was very forgiving in terms of mistakes, and taught me a lot of do's and don'ts about FI.
