Custom Prelude Turbo
I'm getting a 95 prelude si, and want lots of power (who doesn't?). Lets say I got just the turbo off e-bay (I was looking at the Garrett ones, and even though I know they aren't that great, they're pretty cheap), could I put it in myself, and forge the rest of the parts from wherever I could get them cheapest? (ie: BOV, wastegate, intake manifold, etc) I know this would be a huge project to tackel, but could it be done?

Re: Custom Prelude Turbo (styler7)
Styler, here is my set-up:
-manifold from south florida performance
-intercooler off a drag gen 3 kit
-t3/t4 turbo
-custom intercooler piping and downpipe made from u-bends
-tial wastegate
-greddy type s bov
-greddy profec b boost controller
-greddy boost, egt, and fuel pressure gauges
-greddy tt
-hondata stage 3b
-rc 550cc injectors
-aeromotive fpr
-custom 3" exhaust
Using all new parts, and doing the install myself, this is costing me around $6k with dyno tuning and 3" exhaust. A custom set-up can be done for much cheaper, however, especially if you are willing to buy used parts. Good luck.

Re: Custom Prelude Turbo (Inlinefour)
Inlinefour, how much power are you putting down and have you ever been to the track? I am trying to get an idea of what other turbo si's are running. And yeah, I originally wanted to do it much cheaper, but I decided that I would rather spend more to make it more reliable and a little bit faster.

I put the kit on my car last May. I took it to the track once. My stock clutch was slipping horribly. I had to launch like a grandma or my clutch would just slip the whole way down the track. I also used to have a J&S Ultra, which thought it needed to pull 8-10 degrees of timing, so that killed my topend. I managed 14.3 pretty consistently and a 2.5 60' ft., which sucks, but with my new clutch and no J&S, I can't wait until the track opens up this spring. I think my car will run ~13.5 or so.
Here are some of my parts, I put the clutch and fw in recently. I'm aiming to get Hondata 2b before spring.
-Majestic T3/T04E watercooled turbo
-Drag Generation II manifold, dp, intercooler and piping
-2.5" test pipe
-HKS wastegate
-Ho'made manual boost controller
-Blitz blowoff valve
-ERL MF2
-Apex'i WS exhaust
-Walbro 255 lph hp pump (#341)
-Clutchmaster's 8.5 lb billet aluminum flywheel
-Clutchnet Stage 2 clutch

Re: Custom Prelude Turbo (Inlinefour)
So whats the best way to go? Should I piece out a kit for about 2k, or do it custom for about the same? Wheres the best place to buy the kits online?

Re: Custom Prelude Turbo (Inlinefour)
Piece together a setup that is right for your budget. If you can afford to get top notch everything, it may run about $6000 for EVERYTHING. I.E. clutch, exhaust, boost controller.......those things are not part of a turbo "kit" but they are support mods.
