Icon2 Custom breather tank help... what needs to go inside?

Hi guys,

Being in the UK I can't pick up one of the sweet breather tank setups you have in the US (because my cars RHD)... plus even if I was to import one of the RHD versions it'd cost me a silly amount of money for delivery + the ridiculour amounts of import tax & vat customs add on top... so I'm getting one custom made at a local fab shop!

Just a quick question, it's going to be along the lines of the T1/B&R fittings design (above).

I have already asked them to weld a baffle in, but do I need to put something into it as a filter for the drain-back or is it ok being left empty? Anyone know?

Thanks
Dan

Going by the factory black box design, I think just some baffling is all that is needed. The more surface area the oil vapor has contact with(the more baffling) the better job it will do. No filter medium required, but ive heard of guys running steel wool in their breathers. To me this is a bad idea as small slivers can drain back to the pan if you got a re-circ type setup...
The Endyn catch can Im using just has baffles FYI.

Check with Joe at LoCash Racing, i know there is a rhd eg in the complex with his modified catch can. might make and sell you one too. Looks "kinda like" that one above but reverse it for your app.

Thanks guys,

PyroProblem - That's one thing I was always unsure about, didn't feel comfortable putting steel wool in there with the risk bits could get into my oil system. I think I'll just go with baffles.

White.:R32 - Thanks, but the fab shop I'm using are charging me "mates rates" so I'm getting a great price. Plus the problem with importing bits is the suprise import tax and vat that customs hit you with.

I put a baffle from one side of my can to the other and then used a drill press and a 1" bit and put a couple holes in it and that was it, the T1 style cans are so big that not much is needed to keep the oil in them.

Baffels will be fine. As stated above, some people put steel wool in. Try the baffels and if it spits add some wool...
