yes they can bore/ hone and resurface but its additional charge. either way its not IMO a smart investment in money. They CAN hold but when there is a failure its garbage. with sleeves generally bore it out and keep going. Stock sleeves handle quite a bit without the aid of a block guard and when you reach that point sleeves should be done IMO. Shawn is a buddy of mine and I'm trying to help him with his build not get in a CSS debate

IMHO here's how I break down approx cost
Sleeves (GE, benson, ERL, Darton, ect)
$1050-1400 sleeves & installed
$80 shipping ($40 each way)
$100 bore
$100 hone (p2w carefully measured)...not just $50-60 honing job
$50-100 block prep work
$50 decking
$1400-1700 ish if you supply the block & depending on which sleeve company.
IMHO the 2 biggest selling points are:
1) pretty much good for + 1000whp
2) If you start off with smaller bore 81-82mm, you have the option to keep rebuilding it with larger bore pistons.
So you should easily be able to get 6-8 rebuilds out of these sleeves & overtime it saves you money, unlike CCS.
CCS
$300
$80 shipping ($40 each way)
$100 bore
$100 hone (p2w carefully measured)...not just $50-60 honing job
$50 decking
$630'ish
IMHO,
If you're the non-serious (long-term honda guy) it's hard to deny attractiveness from the upfront savings cost.
Justin, it's hard to convince those who haven't done it.
It's a uphill battle considering that from what I've seen the past few years from the honda community:
~ the new generation honda owners have it at lot easier compared to pre-2004 area. I mean back when people made 400whp it was crazy. With better software/fuel parts & knowledge making 400whp just seems like today's norm. Many find themselves maxing out their stock sleeves very quickly as the boost bug bits.
~ people don't stick with just 1-2 builds through a decade (like sold OG do like myself lol). Instead they dump money into decent parts to make bigger numbers & then sell the car or change out the powerplant for something new that haven't tired. It's like everyone wants the latest and greatest. lol
~ I can't tell how many times kids walk into a shop (i'm guilty) and have said "what's the MIN i have to do to make XXX whp" . Unless you super conservative/cautious person or have money to spend sleeving your motor first boosted motor, it's hard to sell a customer on sleeving cause they want to spend $10K but just want it to cover everything from power, rims, suspension ect.
~ In the end there's a huge crowd who want 400-600whp on all different types of fuel (91-e85-e98-c16). Even though there are many advantages to sleeves (not just power related) most wont' see past the big $ of sleeves, same goes for eagle rods vs. manely I beams, ect.
With that said, I'm a complete noob to turbos myself. Ask Mac, lol I went from only wanting 280whp to making 400whp in less than 8 months & 1,00 miles. There's still a lot I have to learn, including how to drive.
With that said, I choose try CCS because of a few factors (not everyone will have)...I wanted to test the waters if having a high 500whp fwd civic was for me, I vave 2-3 spare blocks to send in to sleeve if needed & machining (bore/hone/decking) was free. So it just make the most financial sense.
Jeff @ CNCwerx also help contribute towards the build in his way = ).
I'm looking forward to test out the CCS on some road racing & lots of drag racing this season. Realistically shooting for 500whp with E85 & 600whp with E98.
OP, for your goals I wouldn't advise you to reply solely on the CCS process.
If money is an issue, try to find a used sleeved block 82-84mm... I've seen some go for $800 range. Otherwise just bit the bullet and get it sleeved.
Here's my block that we just got done machining last week.

Charlie,
i would love to find any sleeved block for 800$, i don't think i have ever even seen one for sale! LOL. Great response, very detailed and not combative. Good useful information. thanks you!
turbo LS, i wasn't trying to get into a debate on whether or not CSS is a good way to go, just passing on info i had read. I Think CSS is great if your looking to do around 500 HP, it is some added security and peace of mind. But if your trying to blow past that magic number, then yes, sleeves are a must and should be the only way to go.

Agreed I believe if you want piece of mind 500-550. Hp it's a good investment but when trying to hit 700+ Hp it's kind of a waste of money and that should be put toward a sleeve job. I spoke dire toy with Benson and he have me a really good price on sleeving with final bore and decking so I'm sure people can call and get the same deal. It's only 1100

anyone else having problems posting pictures? keeps sayiing upload failed. Anyhow, since I'm taking this build from a somewhat budget minded standpoint I have considered buying a used sleeved block. Only concern with that would be who installed the sleeves and if it was done properly. The $1100 for a benson block really isnt all that bad, it would come out a little bit more for me considering I need an align hone.
My Webb cams came in last week. Spoke with Webb today and decided to use their valvetrain kit. That will be next to purchase.

could try a used Golden Eagle sleeved block. They install their own sleeves. Even when shops take orders. Its all done as a matter of quality control.
I live in ft lauderdale fl im also running the css block i spent around $850 after shipping, bore&hone, line hone main caps etc..my set up is simple 82mm gsr,jg manifold, ramhorn ,6265 precision turbo, custom ls tranny...car made 625hp and ran my personal best 9.75@148..not really trying to push it much more to break it but if i had to do it again i would get a aebs or GE sleeved block just to be safe in the 650-750 range..

$100 bore, $100 hone, $50 decking, $40 shipping one way??? You guys need to get real with your prices or at least stop ASSUMING people have access to such great pricing.
By the looks of your build, what in the hell is another $700? It is sad how much ricers cheap out on things.

Here are some stats to help with the doubt I am still reading.
4+years and well over 100 blocks out there ZERO customer cracked blocks. We have received reports from R&R Racing NJ and DP Racing NJ that they have had customer who have melted down at well over 600Hp and are rebuilding from 81.5 to 82mm, so its not just strong if the tune is perfect.
Here is a short list of current 9sec cars. All still running strong.
Darnell Paul FLA 9.7 (ibelieve he posted a couple posts up)
Joswai Fallriver, Ma 9.8 (2year old block)
Eggy racing NJ red EK 9.9 (4year old block)
Eggy Racing NJ red EG 9.9 (3year old block)
Ray R&R racing NJ blk coupe 9.1 @ 161, backed up by 4 9.2’s the same weekend (3year old block)
Good luck guys!

Forgot I had made this thread a while back. I didnt actually start acquiring parts til a few months after. Im nearing completion with the rebuild. I'm doing a dual back door intercooler by Turbo Elements in San Antonio. Those are just a few pics hes sent me. Hes also adding on to my 4pt, and making it a 10pt. 4" up pipe, and a fuel cell.

I received the block and crank from the machine shop last week. 84mm GE block. Bottom end consists of Manley TT Rods, JE's and ACL Race bearings. The head should be done any day now. The head is being built with crower valve train, ferrea bronze guides, ferrea 6000 valves, ferrea keepers, and Blox P2 cams.
