Could this be causing my detonation?
Ok i have a D series single cam turbo. No matter what i do to this thing it wants to detonate. The only thing i can do is run timing way retarded and run alot of fuel. I have a block gaurd. Could this be causing my detonation? My friend has the same setup with no blockgaurd and he runs near to stock timing with 10psi not detonation at all. what you guys think? Most of the past thread i have read say that block gaurds are supposed to prevent detonation, but sounds like BS to me.
Block guards really don't have a ton to do with detonation, there's no direct correllation. I suppose it could heat up if it creates cooling issues, but other than that it's not related.

Have you tried richening the fuel mixture?

You just contradicted yourself. Remove the blockguard. Detonation is caused from two things "generally". One is heat-soaking of the cylinder walls. The second is excessive back-pressure.
Lack of fueling results to the heat-soaking, and small manifolds, and exhausts lead to the second.
Just think about it for awhile

No the motor is not stock. Its got rods, pistons, drag kit, 450cc and safc.
The block gaurd is a STR, which looks to have better cooling then some others, but i dont know what else to try. Its not the fuel because it was doing it a while ago and my dyno chart said way rich..

im talking....NGK BKR7E, 12 degrees timing, with 1/2 degree per pound with safc set as rich as like -33 at 4,000 and up at only 7psi. Still detonates. WTF is the deal.
Its gotta be the block guard. in the past i have blown two or three gaskets and when i replaced them i couldnt tell where they even blew. Almost as if the head warped a littel and let the gasket leak.

I would definately ditch that **** then.

unless you have a wideband to gaurentee that you have a good A/F to verify your running within an acceptable range...i dont think you can make a good guess.
are you sure its actual knock? i really wouldnt run it all that hard until you figure it out
