Default Compressor surge

Mods in sig.

I have a greddy type rs bov. Ive had compressor surge with the BOV on its softest setting, and the hardest setting. After some research, I was told to remove the small spring inside the bov. I did. Still compressor surge with the BOV on its soft setting.

The BOV is right above the transmission, close to the throttle body.

Any tips?

Also, for some reason, my radiator fan stopped working, again. I just replaced the switch which seemed to fix the issue, randomly driving around, my coolant level spikes. I do have a leak in my radiator, so I'm not sure if the lack of coolant would do this.

Any help will be appreciated.

If you have a leak you have air in the radiator system. Those pockets of air throw off the fan switch thermo sensor. Fix the leak.

Post a vid of the compressor surge. Could be a leak in the charge piping. Double check every connection and intercooler.

thanks for the info. Tomorrow I will get a video. I have a feeling I have a leak somewhere.. I'll investigate.

exact same, muuuuuch louder under high boost.

How could a small boost leak cause compressor surge?

is this the sound youre talking about? because what you posted is flutter, not compressor surge. surge happens when the turbo is trying to push more boost than it can handle at a certian speed or something like that.

compressors stall, not flutter is what I mean.

compressor stall happens when the turbo is making more pressure on the compressor side than on the exhaust side (lifting off with a stuck bov)

surge happens at wot usually, and is caused by the turbo pushing more boost than the engine can use for a given rpm. so the turbo starts making a chirping fluttering noise as the pressure builds up in the intake, exceeds the exhaust pressure, surges and tries to reverse direction (the loud chirping noises) then intake pressure drops, exhaust pressure then becomes greater than intake, builds up too far, etc etc. its an oscillating cycle.

maybe your bov is damaged and not venting properly.

Where is your vacuum line going to from the bov ? Is it a real greddy? If your vacuum line is hooked to a Tee with another line for the BOV ditch that and give it a dedicated line from the manifold

its a real greddy. Its directly connected to the intake manifold, no T

you say you have the soft spring installed and the bov is on its softest setting? now does that mean you backed off the adj stud all the way out? if thats the case, like you said, i'd check for a leak in the line somewhere feeding the bov

that sounds like its fluttering because it's TOO loose. Pic of how it's installed? How does it react at full boost?

The flutter doesn't bother me, but under full boost, its nasty compressor surge. I'm going to replace the intake manifold vacuum line. I'm also going to inspect the diaphragm since these bov's are notorious for ******* up.

Heres actual video. I would have stayed neck n neck if I didn't bounce off my rev limiter (first time going WOT with this tune) And yes, that is coolant on my windshield. At first I completely forgot about the leak in my radiator, I thought it was oil

So, this seems like I have "flutter surge", does anyone agree?

Just sounds like a greedy bov to me. Maybe a little loose on the setting but about normal sound

Yep. Completely normal, though a bit on the loose side. Its not compressor surge. Those diaphrams rarely died except on the fake ones. Putting the second spring in, make sure the line to the IM isn't collapsing, otherwise, its fine.
