turbo surge
can someone explain to me what this is and how to get rid of it. and does this sound like a sign. im only boosting 4 pounds right now and my BOV opens at three. so would that cause it to flutter?

Re: turbo surge
What kind of BOV do you have?
I know personally I have a Greddy BOV and when I first put it on my car I had terrible compressor surge because the BOV was too tight and not allowing the air from the intake tube to be released once the throttle plate was closed. I had to loosen up the little screw and now it blows off without any issues and no compressor surge.
Compressor surge sounds exactly like you say, it's a flutter sound, it may sound good but it can be very hard on a turbo. Compressor surge happens when the air from the intake side of the piping has no where to go because the throttle plate is closed so it goes back through the piping and goes into the compressor housing actually spinning the wheel backwards which is NOT good. The flutter sound is the air pushing the compressor fins backwards.

Re: turbo surge
Its not surge, and your BOV shouldnt open under 3psi like that. Is it making the noise when youre getting off the throttle or just holding it?
More than likely BOV flutter caused by inconsistent pressures on both sides of the throttle plate.

Re: turbo surge
my .02 i would definitely spend the extra money and get a better BOV, or wastegate; greedy, tial, etc. although cheap no name one work, i've seen more problems with them than top quality ones. no saying the expensive one don't go bad either. a bad BOV/wastegate can ruin your turbo costing you more money in the long run, so u might want to be careful.

Re: turbo surge
fluttering at low psi is most likely not compressor surge. and from your other thread it looks like you arent tuned yet, so stop boosting! i know its tempting but even basemaps can be unsafe in boost
