dual backdoor intercooler question
im looking through a lot pages and not finding much to choose from. full-race has a nice selection but of course it will cost me one of my ********* to purchase one.
i will be around 450-500 hp and im staying there, so i don't need one rated for 800 or so. my car will be a driver and i would really like to find one rated close to my power goals. if you know of a company that sells a good one message me or chime in. the car is a 98 coupe the motor is b series, doesn't matter if it has a bov flange but it does need to be a dual backdoor.

Re: dual backdoor intercooler question
Not trying to split hairs but why does it HAVE TO BE Dual BD?
Plenty of people have hit your power goal with a regular side exit/entrance end tank style intercooler. It would certainly be MUCH cheaper. Go-Autoworks has one for under $400 that would work I believe.
No one is going to make you a custom intercooler for much less than $500-$600, and thats a stretch. Unless its a piece of crap.
EDIT Just read that linked thread..... there ya go. Cheap and effective, and Dual BD. Who knew.

If you want, hit up SMC here in spokane and they can make you one. You can order like a treadstone core and have them fab the tanks. I dont know the price but they usually do good work for me for a cheap price. Finding a backdoor cooler thats gonna fit perfectly is gonna be spendy.

Re: dual backdoor intercooler question
If you want to run 99-00 fogs easiest way to do is it to take your current IC and flip it upside down (assuming they are not center exits). Having some tabs welded on and making new pipes is a loooot cheaper than a custom back door.

Re: dual backdoor intercooler question
i tried installing my old ic for now and skipping the backdoor but .... that didn't work out so well.
my traction bars are in the way. when i adjusted and made a different pipe routing around the mount it was in the way of the oil return line. so now i don't have a choice.
i also had to rotate my downpipe. the new turbo has a different angle so the bolt pattern doesn't line up (the other end of the downpipe is against the bottom of the car in this picture)
test fit and tack welded then finished up
i took measurements and it looks like goautoworks has the right size i need. i'll be calling them this week.
