Default Cometic Head Gasket

I sent my head out the other day to get shaved and pressure checked and i put a cometic head gasket on my moter and when i was torqueing the head back down one of the arp head studs snapped so i called up the company and they sent me out a new set i was wondering sence i had to take the head back off to get the broken stud out if i can re use that gasket, i didnt run the car i got 9 out of 10 studs torqued down so the gasket is still brand new but it did get crushed are they resuable if you didnt run the car ? thanks for the help.

I'd definitely reuse it.... but then again my car leaks a lot of oil, so apparently i reuse gaskets too much.

It depends on how desperate you are. I would vote for , but if you have no money and want to risk it, go right ahead. It can be fine, or it can be bad. I would say go ahead and buy a new one because you already have everything apart.

So if the already crushed one works but blows in the future, you're going to need to buy a new one anyway. Then take everything back apart. See what I'm getting at?

I drove for a few thousand and took of my head and put it back on resusing the HG. It definitely isn't blown, but my motor is leaking oil from somewhere (could be the HG, but it's hard to tell). There is no coolant in the oil or vice versa.

If you are on a tight budget, i'd reuse it. if your time is more important than money, then buy a new one.

1. dont waste money on a cometic gasket. just use oem.

2. how the hell do you snap a arp headstud? no matter how much you torque them you will rip the threads out of the block before you snap a stud in two.

You did or you didn't apply lubricant on the threads that goes into the block ?

You need to apply engine oil to the threads going into the block , not dry and don't use Moly Lube either.

I had before and they would not go all the way into the block and stripped, my machinist at the time told me never to apply the Moly Lube for going into the block but use oil and use teh Moly on the toop of the stud and the nuts. Since that happened I have not used it like that . My exhaust side stud on the # 4 cylinder was about 1/8 higher than all the other studs and would not go down into the block any further. I may have used too much moly BUT oil only is needed for going into the block imo

Also Cometic gaskets are perfectly fine, we have run them with great success, I hate how people say you must use an OEM gasket. OEM works but so does a Cometic either way.

Never had any problem with Moly Lube in the block...I also use motor oil down the threads before I put the studs in. Maybe you had something inside the hole ?

Got Snail 2, YES you can cre-use your HG as long as it hasn't been on a running motor.
