Default Cleaning out a used built motor we got.......

Hey Guys,
We bought a used built motor with about 500-1000 miles on it, and it was sent to us with head/block/tranny all seperate, it's a '97 H22A4 block with benson sleeves, JE 9:1's, crower rods......anyways, there is some dirt and other crap sitting on top of the pistons, and the insides of the cylinders have some thin rust on them.......what would you recommend as cleaning procedures? We're thinking about putting it on an engine stand and turning the block upside down and blowing it out with compressed air to get the dirt/crap out (hopefully), but if that doesn't work what liquid? can we try cleaning the crap out with? Also, what can we use to take the rust off the walls? Steel wool? SOS pads?......any advice would be appreciated
Brian

i hasd a simliar prob w/a engine i got... what i did was dissasembled it, re-honed and new rings for it, and cleaned all the indivadial parts. you dont want that engine to go to **** cause you didnt see something in there and now the cylinder walls are shot...good luck

Thing is, we don't want to disassemble it at all We just want to make sure that the rings aren't scraping the rust off the walls......

Well, it's your money but you should take it apart, clean it, and put it back together.
