checked my plugs today.....
i checked my sparkplugs today...and all was fine except for my number 4 plug had a liitle white discoloration on it......what could have caused this and what could i do to fix it....here's my set up:
zc motor
92-95 greddy kit @5psi
fuel press. reg.
msd ignition w/btm
stock fuel pump
fmu
stocl injec...
i have an inline pump and some 310cc to put in just waiting for 8:1 disc for fmu
also i just installed the msd igniton and btm last night
but i also have my ignition timing retarded about 2-3 deg. i've been told that that can cause it to run hot which according to my egt guage it kinda has but i watch it closely.....and never let it go past 1500deg...........which i think is still too high....but i am going to advance my ignition timing now that i put the msd btm on....how much should i advance it and what do you guys think i should set the retard setting for?
i just want to be careful because i don't want to kill my motor
i'm also planning to turn up the boost to around 8psi after the fuel stuff is installed
-any help would be appreciated
-thnx

Just a quick question if you don't mind, What exactly did your plugs look like? (not the white one) the one that were "ok", all mine are white/grey tipped I'm waiting on inline pump and vortech recalibration unit and will probably be going with 310cc injectors also.

I beleive the engine of those plugs is running lean.
The insulators are not supposed to be "white".
Good conditions(rich)= dark gray - light black
Bad(lean) = white - very light grey. may also have blistered insultaor.
Also make sure the motor does not idle for a long time before pulling the plugs.
Rev the motor in boost, turn it off immediatly, let the engine cool, pull plugs.

Hmmmm
White plugs are fine. Look closely at the insulators w/ a magnifying glass. Look for silver specs/flakes (very small) or black specs/flakes imbedded in the insulator. These are signs of detonation...

that way you can check if it's running lean in boost, and you don't get mixed results from the tuning conditions at idle!!
