cheapest good tuning system
whats the cheapest good working tuning system DON'T SAY HONDATA (the only person in my area that tunes hondata doesn't use a dyno and charges 250 each time you need to tune it)
will i be ok with a vafc how much of an increase in fuel can it produce? will i still need a fmu if i use a vafc?
my setup is h22 accord with a t3/t4 and i don't have the rest of my kit yet just buyin it all now

it just all depends what you want to get out of it? how much boost do you want to run, and how safely do you want to do it? want to boost 10+ psi safely...standalone is the only way to go. just want everyday boost? start looking into vafc hack...

Re: cheapest good tuning system (98civicEX)
I think that the afc and a btm would be comprable to a standalone, just not quite as adjustable and could be trickier working with both things...
call me stupid, but is hondata really a standalone? you still need the stock ecm, just like the greddy e-manage, which is a piggy-back. I don't think the fact that it is totally adjustable and has cool features makes it a standalone. I'm just nit-pickin'...

try hondata
BTM is a boost timing manager that will retard your timing per degree of boost, they come on some msd and crane ignition systems, i have a crane TRC for sale if you need it, same thing as a btm. if you have vtec, get the apexi v-afc (vtec- air fuel controller), it allows you to program your vtec and diff rmps as well as richen/lean fuel curves. you will still need an fmu unless you are running a standalone system. what the fmu does is increases the fuel output once boost pressure is recognized in the unit.

it's funny that you should mention emanage. i was just going to suggest it. i am in the same boat as you and am probably going to go with the emanage. the emanage just seems to be able to do everything i need it to do. it does the same thing as the vafc, but has more points you can configure. you can also play around with timing with it. i think in the long run, it would be the cheaper way to go than a vafc and an msd btm.

If your only running 5-7psi afc hack alone is fine, keep your base timing at 12-14degrees depending on what gas is availble to you, lower timing if you are ****.

Re: cheapest good tuning system (filipinium)
Your cheapest option is probably gonna be an FMU, I've heard good things about the vortech unit. Your most reliable and cheapest option on the other hand is probably gonna be the AFC hack, most guys use this with DSM 450 injectors out of eclipses and talons and used ones can be found pretty easy cause alot of DSM guys swap theirs out for bigger ones. The Emanage sounds like it would be good too although i don't know much about it. I think your best option would be the AFC hack with DSM 450's.

Yeah, I'm thinking about ditching the AEM and going with the GReddy E-manage myself. I was just waiting for someone to try it first. The AEM is so difficult to tune and like you said most shops ask a fortune to tune it.
But then again, there is the SMC which Zip is promoting. This device sound too good to be true. It's the answer for fuel enrichment when using a turbo or supercharger.

Re: cheapest good tuning system (tygsr)
I DO NOT WANT HONDATA i'm sure its a great product but no one can tune it around here except for 1 person and he charges 250 for tuning , i want something that i can take to my tuner put on the dyno and not have to be a stage 4 owner if i was gonna buy the hondata stage 4b i would just get aem ems
i will more than likely use the e-manage

Re: cheapest good tuning system (accorracer)
If anyone is interested, I'm selling my EFI Systems PMS engine management system for $500 Shipped. It also the low impedance plug-in driver, so you can run low impedance injectors. It's really easy to tune. There's some more info on it here: http://www.efisystems.com/pms.htm
