car smokes
engine: d16z6, "ballbearing/watercooled" t3 turbo, rebuilt turbo.
other info: car has only been driven 20 miles while turboed, it is on an FMU, untuned.
problem: when i purchased this turbo i was told it was ballbearing, watercooled and rebuilt, i installed the turbo and did not hook up the 'water cooling' ****. i drove the car around maybe about 5 miles one night and it seemed fine and spooled well. then all of a sudden it smoked a little bit blue so i figured it was my return line kinked, i redid the return line. and still the same. i havent been here for a week so today i started the car just for the hell of it, started first try-but when i revved it a little you could barely hear the turbo spool and blue smoke poured out of it..i got pissed, took the turbo kit off as well as the fmu but i left the oil feed line and just sat that in the hole in the oil pan just so i could start the car. so i started it, it sounded high pitched (not sure if its because its single cam with no header) or what. i revved it once, not high at all. and no smoke.. is this the turbo bad? or is it the motor? what do people think?
cliffnotes: turboed car, only been driven 20 miles with fmu untuned, was fine, then smoked blue, redid the return line, still smokes, started a week later and pours blue when revved, took turbo off, started it and no smoke.

the turbo is probably shot since you ran it with no cooling lines to it.....
if you dont know what you are doing then please stop right now......your just gonna end up spending tripple the money fixing your stupid mistakes.

ummm. you don't have to run water lines just because it's watercooled, thanks tho. maybe you shouldn't give out false advice.

What size is your feed line. Maybe you got a crap rebuild, or yoru pushing too much oil into it. How bout some pics.
And its been said plenty of times, you can boost on a FMU, its just not recommended. Unless he was pushing 15 psi, for the few pulls hes done, i'm sure its not the motor. Mine used to smoke from too big of a feed line, and now its smoking again for some other reason, i guess i prolly blew my motor up
As for the cooling, i thought if it was ball bearing, you were suppose to run the lines.... I can't remember maybe someone who knows for sure can chime in. I'd run them anyways, just need a couple t's of your heater hose lines, works great, easy to do, and might as well use them

I think not running the water lines is fine. I've been running my watercooled td04 for over 2 years now without problems running no coolant lines to it.

the car has only seen 5psi, i have only gotten on it like 3 times.. i'm not too sure what size the oil feed is but its the same size as my friends d16 turbo setup.. now i'm seeing theres a little oil coming outo f the exhaust side of the turbo....
