don't do it! Never make you turbo setup dependant on a water injection setup. If you ever run out of water you could cause some real damage. Use an intercooler and let the water injection system enhance your setup to lower your threshold of detonation. It should only be used as a safeguard for higher boost levels for short periods of time. Never build it to be totally dependant!!

can any real gains be had from water/alcohol injection on 7psi turbo? I'm interested in making a kind of half-assed set-up to switch on when I'm going to do a hard run, just for safetys sake.

the SMC kit that steve chulpsa or what ever is aweseom i know the GN guys use it with pump gas to gain extra couple pounds of boost They run aroudn 25psi on pump gas and can do it safely. His kit is pretty kewl in that it auto warns you and stuff if the bottle low etc.

Isn't the downside that the water particles take up space in the cylinders where air could be?

No the water cools the air. before it even makes it to your cylinders!
