can the throttle position sensor cause this???
fully built and tuned 3 yrs ago... the tps clip went bad and disconnected... i replaced with a new clip and the car stopped detonation underboost... i put about 500 miles on the car since i replaced the clip and now the car breaks up under anymore then 7psi of boost... sounds like detonating but plugs r black.. my question is can a tps thats not reading the correct voltage send too stong or too weak of a signal to the ecu and cause either too much or too little fuel?
Lots can happen if the tps is not calibrated. It takes a few minutes to hook a volt meter to the middle wire of the tps and check to stop and full throttle voltage and that would tell you for sure.
yea i wanted to do that... i ahve the voltage meter but how do you check the middle wire... i tried touching it with the end of the tester but nothing reads? you know how to test it?
sounds like its in the tuning or fuel delivery... bad TPS will cause problems all the time (usually) not just after a certain RPM but yeah hook up a volt meter and test the sensor output at WOT
could also be an ignition problem or MAP sensor

u need a test lead with a pointy end (not aligator) and stick it into where the wire goes into the connector (harness side) and plugs into the tps sensor.
it will fit,
then ground the other lead and u will get a voltaage reading, then u can losen the tps screws and i think u need to adjust it to about .5v im not sure about that thought u can search for it tho.
if u dont have a poiny ended probe u mite be able to get away with a paperclip and an aligator clip holding it,
