in my experience, only thing that changes the actual color of a plug is the use of fuel additives. other than that, black everywhere is too rich and white is clean/lean. excessively lean (pinging) plugs will show damage and be whiter than a good plug.

its a good idea to look at plugs from a stock, well maintained, honda as a reference when you do stuff like turbo.

A happy plug should be grey in color. Black (if it's carbon) is excessivly rich or if it's oily black you have a problem burning oil. White plugs mean your runing lean, detonation will show on the plug as little tiny specks on the plug (pieces of the engine)....sorry i have no pics but figure between white and black is good.oh and the tip will probably be a lighter color due to it being the point of ignition

brown is good
no specs is even better

when it looks like someone hammerd on your sprak plug with a bat for hours is when you have some engine issues that need to be attended to

[QUOTE=detonation will show on the plug as little tiny specks on the plug (pieces of the engine)....[/QUOTE]

I pulled my plugs the other day and the electrod was a grey color and I had white spots all over my plugs. Am I running lean or detonating?
