Detonating spark plugs
I was wondering if any of you know what is wrong with my car.
My spark plugs seem to burn out very fast. I have found my spark plugs with loose ceramic. The whole ceramic insulator moves around the plug. They also have brown junk on the ceramic.
Am I running lean and detonation?
What should I do?

If you are getting detonation, your plugs will be speckled, usually with minute pieces of aluminum. As a generalization, the darker your plugs are, the richer you are running. The insulator should be a light-brownish, so it sounds like your okay as far as your mixture goes, and if you don't see any specks then you're not detonating.
As for the ceramic being loose - that's not a good thing. Did this happen to just one plug? If not, what kind of plugs are you running? If you're using good plugs & it happens all the time, my only guess would be that you may be over-tightening them when you put them in.

Okay, those are good plugs. If it just happened once, you just got a bad plug. If it happens all the time, don't tighten them so tight when you put them in.
