Default can i lower boost using my bov?

will this work......i really don't feel like spending the money on a spring. If i just set the bov to open at 6psi or so it should work right.....i mean, i guess i would get lots of creep. thanks for the help guys......i searched but everyone was talking about just switching out the spring

dude springs cost like $20-30, you cannot lower boost with the blowoff valve, you can openit up all the way and just bleed boost off under load, but i would advise against that

just shell out the money for a new spring or even a boost controller. spend 20-30 bucks for a new spring... 100 for a boost controller ... or 1000 + for a new engine...

you make the decision

isn't a manual boost controller only like $75!

A BOV will blow off a lot of air....if you use that, your boost pressure will surge back and forth.

you just need to get a new spring. The boost controller idea sounds good, but it won't work! It can't lower boost anymore than the spring is for. So if you have a 6psi spring then you can't go lower than 6psi with a boost controlle

its a 2g dsm t25. stock wastegate is set at 10psi.....boost controler will not help, that can only turn up my boost.

whoever stated that i should get a new spring or a boost controler or shell out 1000+ for a new engine.....what was your logic behind that?

I can see it hurting performance but i really don't see where engine damage could come from setting the bov to a lower setting. thanks guys

Boost controllers don't lower boost... period.
Your one and only option is to buy a new spring, there is no ghetto way around this. You spent all this money on a turbo setup, but you can't spend $25 for a spring?

Come on now.

The spring is for the wastegate, not the turbo. Is your T25 internally wastegated?

If you did try to lower it with the bov its gonna cause the turbo to overspin to try and build more boost causing your turbo to go way out of its efficiency range and it will wear the turbo out very fast.

that would be called overspool and compressor surge......... not a cool thing for those on a budge........ eats turbos alive.....espeically ball bearing turbos.... the only way to "lower" boost in a weaker spring

The easiest way to lower boost with the integral wastgate would be to use a spring to un-load the stock WG actuator spring. Just hook it up to something stationary and to the actuator arm. The more tension the lower the boost.
oh ya the type of spring i am talking about would be a couple dollars at the hardware store not 20-30

Do a search on homemadeturbo.com, there are a few threads about using a spring to lower boost like mentioned above.

either A. use a spring from a hardware store to pull on the actuator arm, or see if you can adjust the actuator arm on your turbo to lower it...

isn't there usually a bolt on the actuater arm to adjust boost on integral wastegates.

also just a thought but I don't know if it will work. doesn't the actuater arm attach to the lever on the turbo with a cotter pin. maybe you could pull the cotter pin out and drill some more holes in the actuater arm for adjustment or on the lever part?

my bad you didnt really have alot of info in the post, i thought just changing boost period, now i read more, you prob have an internal wg, and the actuator should be able to be adjusted to lower the boost.
be more clear in the orig post on type of turbo and if internally gated.
