can i boost a high compression engine
hi im building a b16 vtec 1.6 with reinforced pistons, rods and a original crankshaft ( which from my research it holds up to 800 hp) the pistons I got are for high compression so my question is can I turbo the engine with out blowing the motor and if its possible what else do i need to be able to boost my engine any help if very well appreciated

im pretty knew knew here but have been looking for the same info myself. i have a b18c5. and wanted to keep the higher compresion for more torque. and the more i look at the power caps of staying NA im looking to boost in the future.

It's do-able yes but for how long will it last also What's you'r C/R ?. especialy if it's you'r DD the reason ppl say GSR's(b18c1) are good for boost is due to the lower C/R of it over lets say the ITR engine. ppl genearly lower the comp when boosting.

sure you can but as far a how long it would last and how reliable it would i cant say. from what im aware of installing low comp pistions will allow for more boost but your power off boost can suffer. installing high comp makes for less boost but better power when not in boost i perfer low comp just my opinion

OMG. Anything can be reliable or unreliable depending on maintenance, quality of parts and build.
It's all about your tune whether low compression or high. Nothing more. Nothing less. Skimp out on that or get a tuner who doesn't know what he is doing and you go boom. Period.
This "lower compression is better for boost" nonsense is just another myth.
Lower compression gives you a better cushion if your tune isn't as good as it should be. And who cares about more boost? More POWER is what you need to be thinking about.
And WTF are reinforced pistons?

Re: can i boost a high compression engine
Why don't people understand that they need to find a tuner, and ask them what they should do and what they would be the most comfortable with doing? If your tuner says "**** ya i can boost 12:1" then its what he wants let him explain but don't be a ***** about paying the man! thats matters a lot more then what someone say on the internet
