Default Can open downpipe affect the idle speeds? (Please help!)

I just got the turbo installed, right now it's open downpipe, let me tell you, it's LOUD AS HELL! It's running terribly, inside it smeels like fuel, the downpipe "shoots" like it's going through little explosions, and plus the idle speed is terrible - the car stalls almost on every light. Now, I wonder whether my current exhaust system is what making my car run so crappy. Will my idles become normal when I weld the DP to the cat and exhaust? Also, the people in the shop said that the car is running very rich right now and the timing is retarded.
Will my car be running well, when I fix all these things (weld the DP, fix timing) ?
I'm just so worried! I've spent $4K on the turbo and install and my car runs like crap

Thanks, any comments appreciated!

Seems like there might be something wrong with the set up of the pump, fmu, or map sensor bypass... make sure the pump has the correct polarity on the wiring...it's very common to accidentally reverse the wires. Next make sure the actual fuel lines into and out of the pump are correct. The bigger straight fitting on the end of the pump is the inlet - this should go to the fuel filter. The smaller 90 degree brass fitting on the other end of the pump (electrical terminal side) is the outlet and should go to the fuel rail. The fmu should have it's sideport connected to the outlet of the stock fuel pressure regulator. The bottom fitting on the fmu should go to the return line to the fuel tank. The vacuum signal for the fmu should be t'eed off from the stock regulator. The map bypass/check valve assembly should have the plastic elbow inserted into the hole in throttlebody and the free end of the vacuum hose should go to the map sensor. Oh yeah, make sure your O2 sensors are plugged in too... I've never seen open DP cause erratic idle or stalling...

Thanks a lot, turbopimp. I'll try to check that stuff out. Tommorow I'm taking the car to the muffler place to weld the pipes on. I'll see if anything changes at all.

****, I was thinking too, that those fools could've fucked up the polarity on the pump. I think they had this new guy work on my car

I'm also in tha Chi...I've tried running open dp and without enough back pressure your idle should be pretty shitty...also your whole **** pit will smell like exhaust because your cat back is not bolted up. Get the catback on asap, you'll get a huge fine driving around like that. If you bolt up the cat back and have any probs still e-mail me I have the fmu, missing link, pump...ect and can help you try to find probs with your band-aids.

sohckid, thanks a lot bro! I greatly apreciate your help. I'm going to the muffler shop today and I'll let you know if I still have any problems after my pipes are welded. I'm often in Arlington Hights (my cuisin lives there) so I know around the area. It'd be great if you could take a look at it. Especially the fuel setup, cause te "new kid" at the shop could've easily fucked it up. I still can't believe the let some newbie experiment with my car!

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for your replies! I went to the muffler shop and the welded my 2.5" DP to the 1.75" cat and the rest of the piping. THe idle is definitely better, the sound is normal (not obnoxiously loud like a Harley bike!), but I still need to get a bigger exhaust setup ASAP. The welding dude said that aint gonna hold up long. So I guess a lot of backpressure w/ the DP was what was causing such poor performance. I'm still running VERY rich though, I'm going to the turbo shop to do my timing and regap my plugs. Hopefully it'll be running better after that.
