Which cam for Y8 head
is there a big difference between the Zex/Comp 59300 and the 105300?
i've been searching around for the cheapest price and upon searching the zex site all of the specs are exactly the same for both part numbers
but when i checked comp cams site they are only listing the 59300 for all dseries engines
and last i checked summit racing's website and when i compared the 59300 to the 105300, it showed different durations and lifts and it also says the 59300 is a mechanical follower while the 105300 is a solid swinging follower
can someone please direct me towards buying the right cam for my engine so i won't have to send it back, i have been trying to contact Zex via email, but i haven't gotten any replies

Re: Which cam for Y8 head
my tuner is the one telling me i need a cam because of the fact i'm using a .57 trim T3/T4 and i need a cam that will give me power gains from 5000 rpms and on, according to him the stock cam is insufficient for my setup

Re: Which cam for Y8 head
From personel experience, your much better off spending some time cleaning up your head. I self ported my head and put in .5mm bigger valves with a 5 angle valve job and with a stock y8 cam (I switch back from the Zex Cam...) made peak power out to 8300rpm with a dead flat tq cure. The time in my sig is from a 2600lbs 4dr running 25psi on a pretty basic Y8 build. I think the Zex cam has a very aggressive ramp rate and too high of lift for what the shitty D-series heads can flow, not to mention the excelerated wear it puts on your valve train. Now if you had a professional ported head stuffed with high valves, then yes I'm positive there are much better choices than a stock cam. Anyways, its just my oppinion from my experience.
