Default Building bottom end. Is this really needed?

So I have decided it is time to build the bottom end.

I have chosen Ross Forged Pistons, Crower Rods, all new bearings etc etc.

Now the shop that is building it recommends that they Blue print the engine. They want $1000 to just do that. How necessary is it to blue print the engine. Is it worth the extra $1k? Most shops dont even do this I hear.

Nah, I think they are trying to sucker ya into another $1K. Not that it would hurt, but if you don't think it is necessary then don't have them do it. It's your money dude.

I don't think I've ever heard of a shop that wasn't the absolute BEST to charge that much to blue print a motor. Do it yourself .. all if takes is a $10 Plastigauge set and some time

Actually, i can't remember how much that crap costs. (the plastigauge)

TurboIntegra-
Are you getting the block sleeved? You should really look into that if you are planning to run a decent amount of boost....as far as blueprinting, I would think that it's only needed if you plan on redlining at 9 grand....IMO

No, unfortunately I can not shell out the $$ for the $5,900 quote I got for a total rebuild with sleeves. This was for the best sleeves (From AEBS)

So I am gonna just stick with Rods/Pistons and good tunining from my hondata.

I guess it's ok not to sleeve the block, it's just a nice precaution...as long as you don't plan on running more than 10psi or so then you should be alright...

you can safely run 15-16 psi on a built motor with stock sleeves.... i actually know a guy thats been running 16-17psi on the stock sleeves with just endyn pistons/eagle rods... 370cc injectors and a v-afc... the car runs strong with no problems *knock on wood*

I used to run 12-13 psi on my D16 with a hotter than hell intake charged JRSC, no form of intercooler, in 110 degree Summer, and stock bottom end with nothing more than Hondata. Did I get lucky? Maybe.

Do you need to sleeve? Definitely not.

However, like the saying goes. Better to be safe than sorry.
