bslightly sunken sleeve???
ok about 2 weeks ago i kinda pressurized my coolant system on my high boost setting. i attributed it to lifting head and old reused arp studs. on low boost everything would run fine, and either way it never overheated.
today i took the head off, and my fuggin aebs sleeves are just the slightest bit below the deck height of the block. it just barely catches your finger nail, close to around .002" tops if i compare it to my feeler gauge.
can the headgasket still seal ok? ( i mean i know the real answer im just checking if this will work for the time being). ive got a new hg and brand new studs on the way and want to keep the car together for at least the rest of thiss yeear

Re: bslightly sunken sleeve??? (blackeg)
as a diesel mechanic id say no but...
take the block out, and get a shop to deck it even. if you dont agree, waste a 75ish dollar headgasket and 3 hrs min. your time.

Re: bslightly sunken sleeve??? (1g)
can i get the block decked without removing the crank/pistons/rods. thats my main question.
removing those items will cost me more than likely 1000 bucks, because id probably do a .020 over and have to buy new pistons. i simply do not have that money
ive had nothing but problems with this aebs block over the past 2 years

im pretty sure you need to remove all the internals to deck the block....or you will have metal/aluminium bits floating around everything.......

yes i know, however id like to get a rehone just to make sure the crosshatch is nice and solid, and if a hone wont clear everything up and i have to do a .020 over, id need new pistons

thank you ive always had bad luck with **** going wrong(cars or elsewhere), even when i take the steps to make sure its done right. i just got my slicks, lsd trans and omni drags too and was looking foward to making some 11 second passes and try to closse in on the 10's.

Re: (blackeg)
I hate to say it but AEBS has gone to ****. I have heard of several problems pertaining to these sleeves, uneven deck hieghts, sunken sleeves. The machine shop that installs them is local to me and by looking at their facility I would never trust them to do any of my machine work. just my .02 cents

Re: (SD_Lurker)
i had mine done in jersey, in feb of 06. since then ive had a mixing problem because the sleeves came up above the deck height, and now the sunken sleeve.
i do have to say however, from things that happenend last year, if i ddint have an aftermarket sleeve block, i woulda have toasted regular sleeves.
if i buy another sleeved block, it would be a darton sleeve done by benson

yeah. i dont really have the funding for a new block now ( i mean i could plastic the thing but i dont want to). think im gonna just have it decked and slap it back together.
i really wanted to make passes at englishtown this weekend, so i think i failed to meet that goal
