should i get my new block's deck resurfaced?
hey guys as you have seen i've been having some major headgasket issues and this time around I am replacing my entire motor because i am sick of the old one which has blown 3 in under 7 months even with arp headstuds and a resurfaced head. Well i got a new head and a block that is in very good shape. It has about 85k on it and has never been beaten on(swapped for a B). Would I be ok just resurfacing the head and not worrying about the block since it has never been through any real abuse? I also have a brand new set of arp headstuds for this motor.

do the block. Since you're sick of HG problems, I'm surprised that you even thought of skimping on a $75 job.

ehh...its not the money..i have just never pulled apart my bottom end before and i'm gonna have to do that in order to get the block resurfaced.
I really just don't have much time to deal with it right now.

my opinion is do it right the first time (get it decked) if you don't know what you are doing witht the block don't do it, have the machine shop assemble it. "its not the money" or have them help you do it. if your shop is cool you can say i would like to learn more and they will say ok come in and we will put it together with you. that way next time you will be confident to do it yourself. good luck

If all points of the deck surface turn out to be level/straight I wouldnt worry about it.

yea i'll check it. I never really checked my other one because the studs were in the block. also if there are any tiny tiny scrathes on the deck surface should I be worried? It looked like there are some tiny ones where maybe the previous owner had razored off something to clean it. The block is very clean other than that.
