Breaking in under boost?

Breaking in under boost?
Hey guys I got LS pistons on my B16 rods. I have new rings on the pistons, and installing a new head gasket. Can I break the new parts in with the turbo? Of course I wont take it over 4 grand, but will it still be too much for it to handle?
Thanks,
Goldfingiz

I broke in my tranny while boosting. I never brought the car over 3,500 RPM. Just don't drive like an *** and you will be fine. Take a nice long trip somewhere, that's what I did.

I wouldn't take a long trip for break in..you need to be at different range of rpm to make it effective...
keep it under 3000 rpm for the first 200 miles with occasional rev to 4000-5000 rpm ish
then increase it by 500-1000 rpm range per 200 miles, and occasionally rev it up 1000-2000 rpm ish and so on..
I kinda took the endyn method and the other method of running it hard..

Re: Breaking in under boost? (Goldfingiz)
Thanks a lot guys! The only new parts that are going in are the rings and the head gasket. The LS pistons were used. Anyway, I'm hearing different things. Some people are telling me to turn it on and let it idle for about 15min, other people are telling me to never let it idle. What should I do? Also, any recommendation on what kind of oil I should use? Unfortunately, the motor has never seen synthetic (previous owner) so should I stick to regular? Also, what brand/type of oil should I use?
Thanks,

use some type of non synthetic. Castrol owns And follow flamenco-T's method, it should work well. Don't listen to the people around you...

Re: Breaking in under boost? (GraphiteAccord)
the never let it idle thing was prob. from somone that builds v-8's, cause that is how we broke in a chevy 350, held it at 2500-3000 rpms for 30 mins. according to helms, let it idle for 15-30, and make sure it gets up to normal operating temp. i would then follow flamenco-t's way, thats what im going to do...
but on boost thing im not sure, i was thinking of leaving the wastegate off so it couldn't boost much, but im not sure if that would cause any kinds of problems

Re: Breaking in under boost? (Goldfingiz)
i'm sorry, i don't really understand the whole break the motor in thing. Everybody has a different method, so who's to say one way is right and the other wrong. Inline Pro built my motor. Installed the motor, got everything hooked up and running and away to the dyno. Now i'm not sure if they didn't drive it around the block a couple times, but it wasn't for a 1k miles or anything like that. Put it on the dyno and let it rip ,took it up to 8000 without problems. The car has now been on the road for 2 months, over 3k miles and runs just fine.

rings usually seat within the first several miles of driving.
there really is no need to break in the motor for 500-1000 miles unless you're really paranoid about something breaking.
but definitely agree with the above, everyone has a different method.

Re: Breaking in under boost? (JeremyL)
removing wastegate = bad idea, better to get a BC and set the boost low
you could easily risk overboosting by removing it
