Break-in period?
Hey guys I recently took apart my motor (B16). I had LS pistons attatched to my B16 rods (8.5:1 compression for boost). I'm having new rings put on the pistons. We're also installing a new head gasket on the motor. How long should it take for hte motor to break in? Also, what's better? City or Highway miles during the break-in period? Please let me know...any, and all help is very much appreciated!
Thanks,

i say 500 miles is good enough, just do a oil change after the first 100 miles, and make sure you get all the dirty stuff out of that motor. So nothing would lock up or anything

I'd say 500 is o.k., 1k to be sure. City miles are preferred, back off your timing just a few degrees (11-12 maybe), keep the rpms fluctuating constantly, lower rpms for first couple of hundred miles, then gradually increase, change your oil after your "break-in" & let 'er rip! Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
Thanks for the info guys!
GTI: I did a search, only things that came up were topics related to breaking up with girls, vacation breaks, and things breaking. Only actual 'break in' topic that came up was clutch break in.
