Bottom mount vs topmount turbo setup
Looking at getting an AFI turbo kit soon. My question is this, which kit would be better to get and why? Bottommount or topmount?
Both kits are the same price and come with all the exact same equipment except the manifolds obviously. I only plan on running a 3" dp and am not looking at doing a 3"-4" or anything like that. The car will only be used for drag racing. Any benefits to one over the other?
TIA

Re: Bottom mount vs topmount turbo setup (007EG)
topmount will give you more boost lag, but that top mount should ultimately make more power, but if your shooting for less than 400-500 hp, the topmount is kind of overkill...

Re: Bottom mount vs topmount turbo setup (ekhonda87)
Main goal after everything is said and done will be roughly between 500-550whp. How will the top mount make more power ultimately? B/c its truly equal length and more of a straight shot? I guess i'm not super worried about lag, since i'll use a 2-step to create some boost off the line initially.

bottom mounts can make killer power.
on a top mount, the divided pulse technology will help up top. the bottom mount will spool a little faster.
if thats your goal, it can be attained easily with a bottom mount.
i did it with a t3 frame and a bottom mount.

Re: Bottom mount vs topmount turbo setup (White Smoke)
I understand my power goals can be reached by either one, i was just curious if there really was any BIG differences that would make one significantly better then the other. I think i'll just stick with the bottom mount then since i'll be running a t3 turbo and wont be using a twin scroll or anything like that.

not at those power levels. unless you plan on growing into one, you are only getting the bling factor. you could use the money you save and spend it wisely elsewhere.
