Default boosting on new motor

so is there a concensus on when to start applying boost on a newly built motor? My rings seem well seated already and I still have under 100miles. I mean, if you buy a new car factory turboed, they dont tell you to lay off the boost, right? I've been babying the motor at no more than 3000rpm and never go past atmospheric pressure into positive pressures yet.

any good theory or practical approaches? what happens if you boost too hard too early,

thanks

Break in = Let it idle for 20 mins. After that, you can boost away.

But hey, if you don't believe me, you can go ahead and "break it in" for 1,000 miles.

its not the boost pressure you should be concerned about, but rather excessive loading and high rpm's. The rings you dont have to worry about, but the bearings you do.

I break them in on the dyno. If the clearances are good, the rings are seated, the head is fresh, the fuel is set at a safe mixture and there are no leaks, I'm not sure what's left. Could be other factors on the street for breakin?

So Earl, if this was your daily driven car, not a race car, would you be boosting the turbo after only 20 minutes of "breakin"?

The I look at it is that you bacically want the metel to metal contact to we'll.......make friends. By breaking in a motor your increase the longivity of the motor. By tommorow I will have started up my 2nd motor rebiuld and I try to give it a 1000 miles although I was tired of people wanting to race so around 450 miles I gave in. That was on the last motor, and it blew because of my mistakes. If I was you I would do some good stop and go driving before beating on your motor!
Good luck!

My break in period lasted until I got to the bottom of the driveway. If all your vitals look good (oil pressure, fuel pressure, no leeks, missing or stumbling). I have been driving mine for 2 months now with no problems. If its gonna crap out, then it wasn't built right to begin with. I am not saying to boost at high numbers, but definately boost at 7 psi. Rings now a days seat within a couple minutes of startup time. A car that is driven hard runs hard. Car that are usually pampered run ok but as soon as you start to give it something goes. Just my 2 cents. If its gonna bust, it might as well bust while you still have warantee on the motor.
