Boosting a J-Swap..?
I was about to send out my jdm B18C block to get built when I got deployment orders. Since I'll be coming back with a grip o' money, I was thinking K24 bottom end with a K20a2 head fully built. At the spot last night, I happened upon the first J-swap I'd ever actually seen. I never wanted to go V8 and the majority of V6's didn't look promising until now. My question is this.. If I do decide to go full tilt and get a J series, probably a J37 or 35, what kind of support is out there for boosting it and has anyone heard what kind of horsepower these things have been putting down? With the ITR, there's obviously an insane amount of support, and the K-series is steadily growing. But the J-Series is still not getting a mainstream look from what I've seen (other than HT Mag). It'd be easy to say go K-series to be safe, but if the J-series will give me more in the long run, that's what I want to invest in.
Please no stupid remarks, I'm here to get good advice and I don't have a lot of time to do it. My goals are to start tuning at 700+ and go up from there. The block and head will be completely worked by a racing company for competition racing and a compressor chosen to fit my design. The donor car is a 1995 Civic coupe. The stock J37A4 is 11:2:1.. Does Anyone have a link or website I can go to do more research on the power-making abilities of the J-Spec? I've already hit up K20a.org.. Thanks in advance!

damn gov computers have the site blocked at work.. I've been looking up the specs for the J37s and the RL and TL both have 11.2:1 ratios, and the MDX has 11.0:1.. The TL has 305hp/273tq and the MDX is 300hp/275tq.. The RL is right there with them.. Which one would be the better to use as a platform? I've read that the TL "takes the cake," but by the numbers, I'm not seeing that there's really any true seperation.. Has anyone seen other sites or places that I can look into for the J37 specifically? And does anyone know where I can look at pricing them?

Man up like most other "less popular chassis" owners do, get a stand-alone and custom wire it to run the motor. As far as the actual turbo hardware, I doubt you'll find anything besides old blower kits, let alone any turbo kits that will actually fit into a Civic/Teg. It will most likely have to be completely custom.
IMO a k20 with a built tranny will be as good or better than a J-series, if both are turbocharged. A k24 block would have more than enough displacement to spool a big turbo, and even B's have proven they can be rediculously fast. 700whp on a >3.5L motor is theoreticly much easier than a 2.0L, but in practice, experience carries far more weight. You'd be practically re-inventing the wheel, as far as what people are used to dealing with on a Honda.

I was headed down the B-series path until this deployment gave me the option to go bigger. Don't get me wrong, the ITR was gonna take me places and break me into HP brackets I haven't been before, but there's still more out there. I got more info regarding my deployment and follow-on assignment today and I really don't have the kinda time I need to re-invent the wheel this go round.. K24/20 ftw! Thanks for the help guys

Damn thats nice.. I completely forgot about this thread. I ended up shooting for a b build and put together a complete build sheet with a shop in Va Beach for $20k worth of work to drop in a crx. That plan was scrapped when something completely out of left field fell in my lap. I'm not big on preludes, i do like the 4th/5th gen bodies, but just never wanted to build one or even an h-series. Tomorrow, the RWD prelude from Super Street's July issue will be pulling into my garage. I can't wait to get started on it! Thanks for the help!
