Boosted GSR....what to do??
ok i have a 99 GSR and im almost done buying parts for it. I'm wondering what i should do. I can buy a cheap MBC on Ebay and up the boost to 12psi and make 325whp or so....and in the off time just run the wastegate spring at the standard 8psi and around 270whp. My question is, is it worth the risk and the hassle to get the MBC if i'm only going to use it occasionally?? It would help me make about 50whp more, but w/ the car being a daily driver, i don't know if its worth risking it.....what do you guys think???
Your car must be tuned. I think it would be better to be tuned and stay at one boost level-
turbo= on-tap consistant power
if you wanted power at the push of a button, you should have installed nitrous

no....i think i was unclear on the wording.....
I'm getting my car tuned on 12psi (300whp~) and since its tuned at 12psi, i can turn it down to 8psi and the tune will work for that boost. I only plan to run high boost on track and bad days
.......should i do that or just tune on 8psi??

just get it tuned for what you think the motor is capable of. Then drive like granny, until you get to unleash the fury
I had a Conquest TSI- boosting 14psi (stock is like 7-8) untuned w/mbc- it pulled nicely for a couple weeks....but ill never see-saw the boost level again
especially not with a manual- the first time i used one it spiked 19psi- and destroyed the motor-
make sure you know what your doing

Ok if I were you I would just go ahead and get the car tuned at 12, and buy a mbc to control the boost when you are at the track with it. And like "Rbehne2" said you will get bored running around with 8. And dont worry about your stock motor because you will be running 8 around town and stuff and 12 when you really need it, like at the track and such. **** i was running a turboxs mbc on my basiclly stock B16 and had it set on 15-18 psi all the time.

why would you need two chips? your MAP sensor will read how much psi is in the manifold and will add fuel according to that. wether its 8psi or 20 psi, if its tuned correctly it will be fine.
can you explain...the way i understood it is that i would have to have a chip for 8psi and a chip for 12psi unless i just tuned at 12 and ran 8..........i don't know anything about tuning really so if you could help me out that'd be great...
Im using the Greddy Profec B Electronic Boost Controller. No problems except that its about 3 years old now and luckily for me it doesnt want to go past 10psi now and high boost setting does the same thing, i guess it doesnt want me to blow my motor
if you are getting tuned at 12psi, then you can ru the car at 8psi or 12 psi on the same tune. you wont need different chips. your boost controller will regulate which boost level you are running at, not the chip. if you get a two stage controller you can trigger high boost with a switch or your EMS may be able to do it for you (using an unused button like A/C or something like vehicle speed to trigger high boost). but that really depends on what program you are using.
tune at the highest psi you want and you won't have any problems if you turn it down
just have it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing, and have a good reputation. Before you go there, talk to the guy and im sure he will have all the info you will need.

Tune for 12...run 12 (I am assuming you are not running the stock MAP....RIGHT????- Stock MAP is only good till 11 PSI ; got a 3bar?), but if you decide to run 8 alternatively (on the 12 PSI Or whatever the highest boost you plan to run- tune)... you will be fine.
Im running crome pro, and 11 psi on an f22b1 (t3/04e)... I rarely turn it down- except in the rain- no problems. Hallman Pro RX Manuall boost controller. GREAT MBC!!!
Good luck
