Ok I dont know too much about the b20s but I was told that the b20Z is the best of the bunch and is a usdm motor. Although i barely ever see them for sale. B20bs are very common and easy to get online, and I was wondering what is the best b20 to boost or if they are even good to boost at all... I was told the cylinder walls are too thin or something like that.. Also If I was to boost one I would get low comp pistons and eagle h-beams. thanks
B20 blocks are known to have thin sidewalls. The most cost effective method at this point if you're shooting for more than 300whp, is to pick up an LS block and overbore to 81.5mm and build a simple piston/rod combo. That setup is capable of ~500whp with the right setup and wont cost more than about $2k. IMO, B20s are ok for NA setups, but when it comes to boosted applications, you may as well move along to something else.
I ran a 91 ef 4dr with a b20 vtec on 14 psi on a t4 turbo. Made 368 at do it dyno.
ran for 9 months hard as hell. My fault it broke. I had some autozone plugs in it to get me home and a street bike wanted to play.. I cracked a ring land on the piston.
Id have to say.. Stock OEM ring lands are weaker then stock sleaves. You should good up to 400 on a OEM b20 sleave...
