Default Boosted b18b1........

Well you see my friend...he baught a 98 hatch with a b18b swap......he wants to know if he should buy new pistons and rods first...this kid wants his car to last with boost......i told him to come on here and ask...but he refuses......so im doing it for him.....he wants to run some pretty good boost..probably more than 10 psi...i also heard that the LS can support 15 lbs safely??I dont know too much about that engine..so let me know what you guys think...sorry nothin is very specific....just something to start....thanks

he should be safe without piston and rods on a ls motor on 10psi with a good tune because right now im running a stock ls on 10psi but im not tuned and its been running for about 6-7 months now

tuned 10psi is safe, untuned its rolling the dice.

With fmu/missing link 5-8psi is doable but again rolling dice.

12 psi is pushing it to the limit on a LS motor

from the numbers on your sig it makes very nice #'s for any stock 4cyl. I really wanted to boost my stk ls before the engine build/LS/VTEC conversion but just wasnt didn't have the time. I really wanted a before and after comparison on the same boost level.

I'm sure with an Victor X manifold, some bigger cams and head work you could have freed up alot more HP with the same amount of boost. Maybe even come close to 300whp.

also the tubo size matters. 10psi on my GT28RS is a lot less air that let say a GT36R.
10psi isnt the same for every turbo

You don't go by PSI...10 PSI on a little turbo will be totally different than 10 psi on a larger turbo.

You go by WHP...the LS block has been proven to be strong to 300 whp on stock internals. It can take it.

First, however, you need to get the health of that engine...do a compression test and make certain everything checks out.

Get a good EMS and find a good tuner and you'll have nothing to worry about.

EDIT: ^^^^ He beat me to it, lol.

yep, don't go by the psi, every turbo is different to reach a certain amount of whp
