Boosted B18B or D16?
go with the B series. who's gonna argue with the truth...boost for boost any B series motor will make more power than the D series.
EXAMPLE:
10psi + D series = 200whp
vs.
10psi + B series = 290whp + mad t0rqU3 y0!
EXAMPLE:
10psi + D series = 200whp
vs.
10psi + B series = 290whp + mad t0rqU3 y0!

Your example is way off, unless you were using two different turbos, the numbers would be almost identical.

I vote to boost the d...
It's already in your car...so that saves you the time and effort of finding an engine, gathering the parts, and swapping it in...
I would take the extra money that you save by sticking with the d and like the guy said before, throw some vitara pistons and eagle rods in there...
Turbo d's are very fun...I don't think you will be dissapointed
especially if you take your time and piece together a nice turbo kit with quality components and a good tune...(I would suggest Uberdata)
By the way, Uberdata doesn't cost $200, it depends on what all you buy but if you don't buy a wideband you can do the whole set up for less than $100 and that includes an EPROM burner...

What is with vitara pistons? I searched and just found classifieds. Are they forged, raise or lower compression? Could someone point me towards good info on these pistons. Thanks guys alot!

I know what your thinking, sounds expensive! but spanking d series and n/a b16 is priceless.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I was kinda thinking the same thing... SOHC > DOHC... Spanking N/A b-series motors with my turbo d-series is priceless.
Honeslty though a b-series would be a better platform to start from, but if you plan on building the motor it really doesn't matter too much.

Not only is the example way off, but the torque myth isn't true. Most D series motors with a given power amount will make more torque than a B series with the exact same hp level.
Their are two main advantages to the B series platform as far as I see it:
1. Higher stock hp, so you've got more to start with generally.
2. Higher threshold for power (Take a look at the highest hp rating on a B vs. a D)
D's have got their advantages (and my vote
)
1. Cheap (whole motors can be had for free, just look around)
2. Money saved from motor swap can be used for forged internals.

ls runs around a grand (you installing it)
d series free (already in car)
b series turbo kit around 2000 if your lucky
d series turbo kit 2000 (nice kit)
tuning
hondata 500
uberdata 200
plus around400-500 for tuning
now if you sold the d series for atmost 500 youd still need 500 for the ls, why not take that 500 extra and use vitara pistons and eagle rods and have a rebuilt motor that can handle 15 lbs of boost?
with the money youd be spending on ls and turbo kit you could build the d series and whoop all over the stock ls
it all depends on if you want to have a great running car with not too much more room to build on or if you want an ls which is an excellent platform to build up on if you choose to later on
either way boost will be fun with either motor
</TD></TR></TABLE>
its all about the D my friend.
keep your motor and build it for the price of selling your motor and buying a stock ls... not only will it hold more power but its a newly built motor that would own on that stock ls all day long.
another advantage... if something goes wrong on the D its sooo cheap to replace compared to the freggin B. the B series isnt worth the money in my opinion. you can make serious power out of the D for much much cheaper. and so what if u have a SOHC if its owning then its owning.
even if your on a budget you can semi build your D for the price of buying a used ls and ud make more power.

i have a boosted d16 and i gave my boy a ride in it and hes a b series lover. he tells me he is very impressed with it and he wouldve neva thought that it would act the way it acts. and i raced a n/a gsr and i beat it. he was there to witness it and the guy who lost and my boy were both speechless. and pars are cheap for a d engine.
i would build the d engine youll save money and impress yourself.
but its your call your money. good luck

i had a boosted z6. it was fun, but the head started to lift just b4 it got stolen. im going with the boosted ls now. my goals are 225ish whp with no worries daily, and 250-275 track on occasion to try and get low 13's. both of these goals would almost definately need a built bottom end d16. i dont wanna build the bottom end of anything. d16 block is only a few hundred cheaper then an ls block, i mean its not like we are talkin b18c bottom ends here. also, the b series lets you have more options for interchangability.. ie im using a gsr tranny on my boosted ls, and you can always do ls/vtec and **** like that.
My goals are for around 200WHP, maybe a lil more. I do not race the car often at all. This is my daily driver, just for fun! If i was going for a fast car, i would start with a LS1! But thank you guys for all the insightful replies!
