Default Boost Timing Ignition MSD Questions!!

I am looking at buying an MSD boost timing kit for a stock ignition. Does anyone know how well this works? Is this a good idea? I have a B18C in a hatch turbo with 440cc injectors, SAFC, FMU, Inline Fuel Pump. I run 10-14lbs of boost. I dont really have the money to go standalone right now (damn school stealing all my money)so is this a good route to go? How does this unit work, do I tune it or do I just let it go and it does its job on its own? Does anyone have any expeirence with this. Can I install it easy or am I gonna need some other parts to install it.

I have never really had good experiences with the btm. Only speaking from past experiences though, I've found it takes out too much timing, even set on 1 deg/1psi. I have however, had good luck with the apex itc. Although the itc only works off rpm and not boost it still works well because you really don't need to take out too much timing and it's also mostly at high rpm's. Your not really driving around at high rpm's w/o boost so it works out alright.

Thanks for the good advice I will check into that. How much does that run and how hard to install?

Actually i'm not sure if apex still makes them but I think I may have one in stock. If not I'm sure someone has one. If I remember right they were around $350 but if I have one i'll sell it to you cheaper if your interested. I think they quit making it because not many people really know what to do with timing, therefore they didn't sell many. I have used them many times with great success. Everyone thinks they need a vafc but nobody thinks about timing. There are fairly easy to install, similar to an afc.

What do you think I should do? I figure you know a lot about this. I dont want to blow up my car. What is gonna make my car safer to boost more for cheap. I have a Inline Pro headgasket but stock motor. I want 10-14lbs of boost. Also which should I buy a EGT gauge (greddy) or A/F gauge (greddy)

Honestly, a good engine management system. I have tuned a bunch of aem's and they work very good. This will take care of all your problems. You could also sell your afc and fmu to put towards the aem. If you try and do it w/o a good system to save a couple bucks it could come back on you when you have to rebuild your motor. I would keep the boost low until you do a good ecu. As far as the gauges, I would go with the egt since they don't have to be calibrated or anything. With the greddy af gauge you have to "break in the sensor" and also have it calibrated alongside a wideband if you want it to acutally be useful.

Hey, how do you break in the sensor and calibrate it with the wideband? I have the Greddy 60mm A/F and also the Speedpro wideband.

I don't remember exactly, it's in the instructions for the greddy gauge.
