Default boost problems

so i recently got this 93 eg hatch with a jdm b16
pretty sure its an ebay turbo kit but thats besides the point
i noticed the intercooler piping that goes into the throttle body wasnt connected so i re-clamped it back on and thought it was good to go

my bov was jammed, or so i thought so i took it apart and the spring inside had fallen off so easily fixed my bov now works

my main problem is while driving calmly its fine but if i get on it in any gear it will get up to around 4-5.5k and just stay around those rpm's even with my foot still to the floor
im fairly new to turbo set ups

anyone have any suggestions?

Check codes. It sounds like you're in limp mode.

Also, more info is needed. Has the car been properly tuned? Are you running the stock map sensor? How many lbs. of boost are you running? How is an eBay turbo kit besides the point?

i doubt its been tuned. i have only had it for maybe a week
the guy i got it from couldnt get it started because he didnt have the ground wire connected to the battery
needless to say i got a hell of a deal
its a chipped p28 and he said 6lbs of boost
before i noticed the intercooler piping not hooked up right it ran fine but seemed like once it was connected is when it acted like it didnt wanna go higher than 4 or 5k

Sounds like it has a fuel problems like running to rich. Does it have dsm 450cc injectors, blue or black tops. Does it have a 255 walbro fuel pump? Do you have a wideband? If not start the car and check the spark plugs to see what they look like. If there black then most likely the car needs tuned and wouldn't be a smart thing to drive the car around until you get more info on the car.

car has been sitting up since the problems started
havent had a whole lot of time to look at it since i got it
not sure on the injectors but ill check
and this may be a dumb question but is there an easy way to check if it has a walbro fuel pump?
also i have no dump tube welded yet. would that have anything to do with it?

also on the boost gauge its always in the vacuum side and the highest it goes is 0 which is obviously dead center between vacuum and boost
and would the wastegate have anything to do with my problem?
or no dumptube?
like i said im fairly new to turbo's so bare with me

If it only goes to 0 then there's a boost leak somewhere. Also if the car is tuned but not making boost then it should start to run rich and that could cause the car not to gain rpms. There's no way to tell if it has a 255 in there ( well all the ones I had where loud) but there very easy to take out(under the back seat). Is there any exhaust around the outlet of the wg because that'll give you a ideal if the wg is working. Plus you can take the wg apart to see if the diaphram is torn.

incorrect. if its not making boost then the map wont see boost so it wont be adding any extra fuel

It almost sounds like the previous owner was playing it smart by leaving the charge pipe disconnected so he wouldn't be boosting without proper tuning.

yeah all your replys are starting to make sense
so if the charge pipe is disconnected would i basically be running off the motor and not the turbo? if that makes any sense?

Right, disconnect at the tb and your motor will not be seeing any pressure. That's what you need to do until you can get it tuned. Otherwise, you risk blowing your engine. It's not a problem as long as the turbo's oil feed and return are functioning well. You will not "overspin" the turbo, so don't worry about that.

Crvtectim...depending on how its tuned and what injectors is in it it'll go rich. If it has a stock ecu with 450cc yeah rich rich rich lol

Silly me, what I should have said is do not drive this car on a basemap (guessmap) unless it's the map your tuner uploads to get the car safely to the dyno for tuning if they're not willing to street tune it.
