Boost hits at 6000?!
When I ran B16 turbo I would read boost at 3500, hit full at 5300, and feel it actually HIT at 6000. Now I have a GSR and there is no difference in the power band !!! What's the deal. I have already tried several wastegates and they make no difference. What are the possibilities which could cause this problem?

Re: Boost hits at 6000?! (V8 BAIT)
I run a 2" exhaust, and 2 1/2 downpipe...But, I have run straight downpipe before and only noticed maybe a 200 rpm decrease in spool time. My timing is set at 16 degrees at idle and I have a 1/2 degree of retard per lb. of boost through my hondata system.
Sorry, I don't know what my turbo's trim is, just that it is a T3/T04e.

There are so many factors that can dictate when a turbo spools and when you hit full boost.
Inorder for you to make a correct comparasion between the b16 and the gsr all other factors must stay constant.

Its not so much the comparison as it is the fact that I think that the rpm my boost actually hits is ridiculously high when compared with any turbo b-series, despite the mods.

The A/R ratio on the exhust housing will have alot to do with this, it should be cast
into the housing on the inside of the snail. You will need to remove it from the manifold to see it.
My old 1.6 (not a Honda) wouldn't spool untill 6500 rpm with a O trim, 70 A/R
T4 hot side. I switched to a 58 A/R and it spooled 500 rpm faster.

Re: Boost hits at 6000?! (V8 BAIT)
check what your A/R is that is important, too loose of an A/R will cause it to be real lazy unless you have alot more displacement to push the turbine wheel. Also you maybe running to lean or to much timing.

if you say it hits full boost at 5300, but you dont feel it untill 6000 you are just feeling the power surge when the vtec kicks in... on my gsr I had as high as an instant 50 hp increase when vtec kicked in.. it was like having NOS ans a turbo...

Re: Boost hits at 6000?! (Phoenix GSR)
OK, someone here doesn't know how a GSR motor works. Unless he's changed his VTEC to engage at 6k then that's not what he's feeling. On a GSR VTEC comes on at 4400 and the dual-runners come one at 6k. Willing to bet he's feeling the boost in power when the dual runners come on and more air get's into the engine.
Get yourself a Skunk manifold or an Edelbrock... something with a little more room then the primary runners on a GSR manifold. The GSR manifold flows less then the B16 one does...
Oh and BTW, base timing should be 18btc on a GSR. They run best at this.
