Smoke/steam? out of my breather!
Noticed it this morning coming to work. It's a 1996 GSR, 102k stock internals and boosting 7psi. I did a compression test not too long ago and it came back 230 across the board. Can rings just go like that? Maybe its the headgasket or worse the sleeve. Man i'm seriously thinking about hanging it up.

Honestly, it just gets hot in there. What do you think gets suck up thru the breather tube? Pretty much every engine I've seen blows a little crap out of there sometimes.

Maybe if it pours out all the time, but if it's just from time to time...really every engine I've had that I can think of did this at least every once and a while, and I never had ring problems on any of them.

Yeah i just called inlinepro about getting a leakdown test done. They said that it almost guaranteed to be ringlands

pull another compression test...if it turns out low, you know you got problems. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much.

Compression tests sometimes don't reveal a blown or leaky gasket.

Compression test are:
230psi #1,2 and 3.
90 psi #4
A month ago everything was fine, now everything is in the *******.
Great. Where do i go from here. The damn thing pulled strong even on 3 cylinders. I don't think i want to go back to NA. I think i'll pick up roadracing and get a nice NA set up.

How can it go from 230 a few weeks ago to 90 all of a sudden. WTF?!?!

by the way gruvy...what the situation with your car...did they ever find it?
its fairly apparent that a guy named Kai and his accomplices from Binghamton are the ones likely involved. amazing how he disappeared from advertising cheap *** motors on the internet once the police were on his ***. I've had a few people from brooklyn to mississippi offer to come up this way and help "investigate" the situation. i figured i'd leave it in the police's hands (who have been mostly useless in this investigation). I'll tell ya, the law may help to protect the innocent but the guilty land up getting away with nearly murder sometimes.

What is this crap?
Re: Smoke/steam? out of my breather! (speedymon)
buy some forged pistons / rods. pull the head, get the proper bearings, hone the cylinders. drop the oil pan and pull the rod caps remove the stock pistions, isntall the rings install the pistons, install the rods with bearings torque it down with plastigauge, reomve and check pastigauge, get the thumbs up and reinstall with moly lube, put the rod caps on, put the girdle on (b18c1 only) reinstall oil pan.
viola. just like bakin cookies. with forged chocolate chips mmm mmm good.
