Boost during engine break-in?
Rebuilding my b1 block with: eagle rods, wiseco pistons, acl bearings, arp headstuds, etc. And adding a ported LS head with Rocket L21 cams, and valvesprings
I've read numerous threads about engine break-in, and have received wisdom from a Honda R&D person who builds Honda engines daily. I've come to the consensus to use basically the following method:
Start it up, hold @ 2000-3000RPMs for ~20min and make sure everything is okay. From there, pretty much drive it hard constantly changing load.
I'm going to include some oil change intervals in there as well, but that's the general idea.
The car is going to be tuned from start up using an Innovate LC1, along with a Romulator, laptop(duh) and Crome Pro.
My question is: Should I boost during this period?
If not: Is it okay to disconnect charge piping to prevent it? At what point should be safe to start boosting?
If so: Are there any special precautions that I need to take?
Thanks.

Your going to hear different sides on this...
I did not run boost during the 1st 100 miles or so.
Also do not disconnect your charge pipes so you dont make boost. This is not the best for the turbo.
Here is a link that should cover most of it

That link says nothing about boosting on a TUNED engine during the first few hundred miles of its life.

I've rebuilt two engines myself. The first one was a D16 piston/ring/hone job. I started it up with a high idle, checked for oil pressure, checked for coolant flow, and got it up to temp. Shut the car down. Changed the oil and filter (use cheap oil, good filter). Took it out on the road and wound the **** out of it watching the coolant temp. Ran it hard for half an hour. Changed oil again at 1000 miles. Perfect 210psi compression across the board, no oil usage.
The other was a 4g63 out of my 91 gst. Piston/ring/hone/head. Cranked the oil pump with a drill to prime the system. Turned the crank with my hand and the pump with a drill for 15 mins or so. Started the motor, got oil pressure, coolant flow, and brought it up to temp. No leaks. Changed oil/filter. Went out on the road and did multiple drag style launches. Also did some high speed pulls. Boost was at 10psi.
Perfect compression again, no oil usage, no blowby, and is quite powerfull for a stock gst.

That's all I wanted to know. Whether it was safe to break the engine in on boost or not. Looks like it's alright. Thanks
