I've been into Hondas for a long time. I've also been into boost for a long time. The project I want to start is a turbo LS/VTEC, but the lingering costs of sleeving the block and preparing the car to handle the wheelspin of the FWD configuration are the only things standing in my way. My question is, what is an average cost of preparing Honda blocks for decent amounts of boost and what is all involved besides boring/sleeving the block to actually making the car put the power to the ground? Lets say for example I was trying to make around 400 whp.

You really don't need sleeves for only 400 WHP, but it's not going to hurt to sleeve your motor. Earl sells COMPLETE built shortblocks including Benson sleeves, CP pistons, eagle rods, ACL bearings, pretty much everything in your motor. His last sale price was 2975 (Or 3350 with Pauter rods) but I'm not sure what it would be now. Either way, 3 to 4 thousand is a reasonable price to pay for an assembled shortblock.

i pmed with Earl yesterday and it was i think 3350 for whole shortblock that is built to the hilt.. you have to supply the block and crank. not a bad price considering you will have a block that will hold massive boost if its tuned properly

Also, look in the forced induction sponsors forum. Exospeed is selling sleeved blocks with Arias pistons and Eagle rods for 2595. While Benson has a great rep, so does Exospeed, so they are another option to look out for. Some people knock on Eagle rods, but I run them in both my motors (Including my GSR motor in my hatch which I shifted at 9800 and make over 500 WHP with) and I would have no qualms using them in ANY street car.

As for traction you can expect to pay the following prices depending on what brands you get. These are not hard numbers so don't take them as fact, just kind of a range of what u might have to pay. You can do all of them or just some but all will help with traction.

Good suspension 700-1300
Traction Bars 200-365
Gear/speed depenent boost controler 400-700
Motor inserts/mounts 36-400
LSD 400-900

I think mine was about $3500 so far, cp pistons, manley rods, benson sleeves, micropolished crank, balanced crank, all new seals, fluidamper harmonic balancer. .

Not exactly. With rods and pistons, the stock sleeves have held up to 400whp. This has worked for some and not for others.

81-81.5mm bore with stock sleeves with hold 500 easily with good tuning...i wouldn't push my luck with thinner b20 sleeves.

i wouldnt even try. like ^^ said, thinner sleeves. 400whp is about the limit for all b series motors with reliability kept in mind and the exceptions.

our price of $2595 is so good for the parts that we use. OEM Bearings. obviously are more expensive than ACLs. and we use all OEM Honda parts for the main seal and bottom end gasket set.


As far as Eagle rods. We use them on race cars making over 500hp. No problem with them making 700hp on Irran Jolly's Exospeed built Hot Rod Car and also Eric Del Rosario/Goldmember's Exedy integra. Those are both Exospeed built race blocks. same blocks that any of you can get from us. There's nothing extra special on their blocks. Those cars can handle the HP and so will many of your street car setups as well.
