Default blown HG??

my friend just finished installing his motor. one of the JDM "30-40K km" motors. anyways, it sounds like a WRX. doesn't sound right.

anyways to my point. he finishes everything off. when he drives it around, there's a lack of power. no CEL's. just did a tuneup consisting of new plugs, wires.

reason why I suspect a blown HG is cause when I went to feel the coolant hoses, they were VERY hard. felt pressurized. so I'm think it's a blown HG, cracked head, sleeve.

let me know what you guys think. TIA.

also, if it was a blown headgasket you'd see white smoke coming out of the exhaust

Check your injectors and injector clips and wiring as one of your injectors might not be firing.

yeah it is.

this is my cousin and he doesn't post on HT. more of a lurker. but anyways here's the deal. he blew his d16y7 motor, so he got this new motor.

it's a d16a from a shop. it's the 2nd gen obd2 d16a. so the distributor is changed out to a d16y7 along with the fuel rail, wiring harness, etc etc. new clutch is installed at this time too. for some reason, he decides to put his turbo kit back on now too. so everything is pretty much setup like when he had his y7 motor.

start it up. putt putt putt putt putt putt putt putt. car sounds like a wrx/sti. straight from idling position. we decide to take the car around the block. the car seriously sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders only. so i told him not to push and just turn around. we make it around the block only, maybe built 1-3psi at the most.

next day comes around, he does a compression test. 165 straight across i believe. he changes his plugs (running heat range 7's) and starts checking for spark etc. looks ok?

so i got back to their house yesterday, after honda sport left. and my cousin says he finally thinks maybe it's the headgasket. after i told him that on monday already. lol he said that he saw a little coolant leaking out the head? (i think that's what he said) and of course honda sport's statement about the hard hose.

the car is running on vafc hack. so it's running rich with the dsm 450cc injectors. this is a home made turbo kit. it's pretty cold out, so kind of hard to determine if it's just really cold or if it's puffin white cause of something with the motor.

I'll double check vacuum.

like undercoverdc2 was saying, it's too cold to tell whether or not it's blowing white smoke. basically EVERY car in seattle is blowing smoke cause it's so cold.

he swapped from stock injectors to DSM 450's. same problem. we'll have to see if the all the injectors are firing. thing is, if there was a faulty injector connector, wouldn't it throw a code? I jumped the service connector and there's no codes, we get a stale light(which means there's no codes )

what would cause pressure in the coolant hoses? the only thing I can guess is a blown hg, cracked head, cracked sleeves.
