blown HG??
my friend just finished installing his motor. one of the JDM "30-40K km" motors.
anyways, it sounds like a WRX.
doesn't sound right.
anyways to my point. he finishes everything off. when he drives it around, there's a lack of power. no CEL's. just did a tuneup consisting of new plugs, wires.
reason why I suspect a blown HG is cause when I went to feel the coolant hoses, they were VERY hard. felt pressurized. so I'm think it's a blown HG, cracked head, sleeve.
let me know what you guys think. TIA.

Make sure you put the plug wires on right and the injector clips are on the right injectors, sounds like a misfire possibly. Hard coolant hoses is usually normal, the radiator pressure cap doesn't open till after 10psi of pressure in there. Do a compression test too, that will tell you for sure if there is a blown HG. Good luck

I agree. Double check your connections and plug wires.. timing sounds off or its a misfire.

I TRIPLE checked my firing order. it's correct. new plugs, new wires. injector clips are correct.
I've never seen ANY car with as much pressure buildup in the coolant hoses as my friend's.

You could pull the radiator cap when the car is cold and start it up, if it starts bubbling and gushing fluid, that's a sign of a blown HG. Or, just do a compression test to know for sure, you can get a loaner compression tester at just about any autoparts store.
EDIT: Also, check for vacuum leaks too.
