white smoke
car has been overheating lately. tonight coming home i noticed white smoke coming bad from the hood but i was almost home so i just drove it. before i got home it started coming out of the vents.. bad. my guess is that it's a blown head gasket. anyone else have a similar problem? also, the heat wouldn't work.. tried turning the heat all the way up temporarily until i got home but it was only blowing cool air. tia
p.s. how much do head gaskets run for, including installation on a d16z6?

Re: white smoke (prendi)

400 dollars!?!? are you serious? i thought they ran for under $100 (not for a set).. hopefully i can find a DIY on it.. my water reservoir also boils.. dunno if that helps. smoke was coming from the head though (couldnt tell if it was a hose or the head, i was looking at it in the dark).

400 dollars for labor. head gaskets are like 50 at the most for OEM ones.

Re: white smoke (prendi)
if its a blown head gasket then you'll know bc water will be pumping into one of the cylinders, so it should feel differant and not run just right it will be slugish, also water/white smoke should be coming out of the exhaust, a new head gasket alone should cost around 50 bucks.

Might be a good time to buy a torque wrench and a Helms and do it yourself. You'll save some money and gain a helluva lot of experience Plus you'll know it's done right (if you follow the good book ).
