Is your engine open deck?

My F22 is open deck, one workshop offered that I should put in a block guard, I said no as for them it will do more damage than good if there is a slight miss in installation.

People said block guard is a killer for cracked sleeves etc etc since it has different expansion rate that the engine block itself under heat.

if you cant afford a sleeved block you might as well have a little more protection. just make sure its a repitable shop that installs it.

I dont believe block guards prevent cracked sleeves. They...if anything, might help under high rpm or high boost keep the cylinders from moving around. Its been my experience that if a sleeve is gonna crack, its gonna do it wether or not the guard is in there. I steer all my customers away from them.

I bought a motor that ended up having a block guard in them, I have read, although I can't confirm this, that if you try and remove a block guard it has a chance to make your cylinder walls not round anymore.

I was going to try and remove mine as it is just pressed in there, however I didn't want to take the chance in ruining my cylinder walls.

A block guard is just that a "BLOCK GUARD". It doesn't prevent sleeve cracking, what it does do is help prevent your block from becoming non - resleevable. So if your going to do high boost, I recommend sleeving your block to begin with.
